President’s Awards Honour Exceptional Achievements

Outstanding work by Superintendents across the country in protecting vulnerable people, improving ICT, valuing difference and improving mental health policing has been recognised in the PSAEW President’s Awards. The Awards, sponsored by Police Mutual, are given annually at the Association’s Annual Conference. Judged by the President and Vice President of the Association, they recognise the achievements of Superintendents and Chief Superintendents and the contribution they make to policing. This year’s winners are: Lifetime Achievement Supt John Armstrong, Cheshire Constabulary (recently retired) pictured above In a 30-year career with the force, John became one of its most experienced and respected detectives. Funding for policing in England and Wales should no longer be considered in isolation from spending on other public services, the Home Secretary will be told at the annual conference of senior operational police officers. Chief Superintendent Irene Curtis, President of the Police Superintendents’ Association of England and Wales, says the scale of cuts facing policing at the next Comprehensive Spending Review, coupled with the changing demand for policing services, will significantly impact on the police service’s ability to cut crime and protect people from harm. Preparations are well under way for Conference 2015, which is taking place from September 7 – 9 at the Chesford Grange Hotel in Warwickshire. President Irene Curtis has filmed a short preview video that gives an insight into what will be on the agenda for this year’s event, as well as looking back at last year’s extremely successful conference. The issues covered this year will include demand on policing services, the impact of technology on policing, ethics, collaboration and the experience of the first Direct Entry Superintendents. After months of planning the time has come for members of the Association and guests to gather for our Annual Conference, being held this year at the Chesford Grange Hotel in Kenilworth. The conference begins at 2pm on Monday 10 September, with the highlights of the afternoon being a keynote speech by the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service, Bernard Hogan-Howe and a session debating Ethics and Integrity in Policing. On Tuesday 11 September the PSAEW President Derek Barnett will speak in the presence of the Home Secretary, The Rt Hon Theresa May, who will then respond, and the new Minister for Policing and Criminal Justice, Damian Green MP will present the closing keynote address the following day.  Other conference...
