High Level Working Group Report On Police Value For Money 04/02/2010
The Police Superintendents’ Association welcomes the publication of this report as a useful contribution to the debate about delivering value for money in policing. However, it is vitally important that we do not lose sight of the need to maintain an effective police service that is able to deal not only with local neighbourhood policing, but is able to respond quickly and professionally to a much wider range of critical incidents, crime and public safety. The police service has made tremendous gains in reducing overtime and in adopting more flexible working practices and it is unfortunate that the report makes specific reference to the compensation afforded to police officers off duty and who are recalled to duty, this is not in any way a significant contribution to police overtime and which in any event is not payable to officers above the rank of sergeant.
