Police Superintendents’ Association Annual Conference – Day 1 Round Up

In an address to conference, President elect Irene Curtis said it was ‘important chief officers understand what is happening to our members.’

She said there are now 300 fewer Superintendents and Chief Superintendents than there were 18 months ago. And that resilience was an issue.

Commissioner Recognises Contribution of Superintending Ranks

Metropolitan Commissioner Bernard Hogan-Howe said the service does not always appreciate the contribution the Superintendent ranks give.

In his keynote speech to conference Mr Hogan-Howe said ”superintendents are the senior operational leaders of the service“.

The Only Way is Ethics, Conference Hears

‘We are lucky to have public services where Ethics are important‘, Dame Anne Owers, Chairman of the Independent Police Complaints Commission told conference.

She said integrity and ethics in policing can’t be imposed but must be grown from inside organisations.

Mike Cunningham, ACPO professional standards lead, said Ethics/Integrity standards are to be published across forces in October.
