The service below is only available to members of the Police Superintendents’ Association of England and Wales. To be a member you have to be a serving Superintendent or Chief Superintendent in one of the 46 Police Forces in England and Wales.
It is an obvious and sobering point to make that when, as at present, Superintendents/Chief Superintendents are working very long hours, in a tense operational environment, things can go wrong. Conscientious and experienced Superintendents/Chief Superintendents can make decisions which will certainly be questioned and which occasionally can form part of a formal investigation.
All subscribing members of the PSAEW are covered by a Legal Protection Insurance (LPI), managed by Abbey Legal Protection Ltd. The cover is also extended to retired members and members who revert to a former rank (conditions apply). The Insurance is wholly ‘defensive’, in that it provides for legal advice and representation to defend actions arising from members’ professional liability.
Should a PSAEW member find themselves in need of advice or support in connection with any complaint or investigation into their role in dealing with current events they should in the first instance contact the Professional Standards Co-ordinator Victor Marshall on Mob: 07887 626719 email@example.com
In those rare cases where a PSAEW member feels that they need urgent out of hours legal advice they should contact the Associations lawyers, Lewis Hymanson and Small on 0161 827 9565. This out of hours service should not be accessed for matters which do not qualify for the ‘urgent/serious’ label, nor for issues which are not job related.
Any time you require advice on any legal matter, telephone the Abbey Legal Line. The legal lines are open 24-hours a day every day of the year. When calling please have relevant papers to hand and quote the membership number. (Please note that in order to monitor the quality of the legal advice, conversations may be recorded.)

The PSAEW’s Panel of Friends is a large group of members who have the experience, training and expertise in providing a ‘friend’ to Superintendents/Chief Superintendents who become ‘At Risk’ and the subject of a formal investigation.
