Police Staff Week of Celebration and Recognition 2026

National officers reflect on the impact and contribution of police staff.

Warren Franklin, National Secretary

I’d like to shine a light on the incredible work of the police staff members who help ensure that the Police Superintendents’ Association is able to deliver its many functions.
We are a small organisation, with a huge remit and a big responsibility to represent our members – more than 1500 superintendents and chief superintendents, whilst also acting as a positive and influential voice in policing.

At the helm of our organisation are our staff members - Rachel Newton, Sabina Reed and Sarah Brown. Whilst national officers change with our election processes, our staff roles are permanent positions that are responsible for delivering the work required to keep our organisation running.

Rachel is our PA to the Presidential Team & Senior Office Co-ordinator, with line management of the two other staff members. She supports the president and vice president with their diaries and workload, whilst also dealing with queries from our members and looking after new joiners and retirees. She is also a big part of our conference planning work.

Sarah is PA to the secretariat, supporting the Assistant National Secretary and I with our varied work. She also supports our conference planning team.

Sabina is our finance officer, responsible for budget management, financial reporting, accounts management, regulatory compliance and cash flow monitoring.

We are extremely proud of our impacts and achievements as an association, and it simply wouldn’t be possible without a staff team enabling us to do what we do.

They are rarely in spotlight, and are never the public face of what we do, but they are essential in helping us deliver our work.

I’d like to thank them for all they do in helping us support supers and supporting policing.

Sara Crane, Vice President

Throughout my 31 years’ service, I have had the privilege of coming into contact with and working alongside many excellent police staff colleagues. Time and again, I have seen the dedication, professionalism and determination of police staff whose work often happens out of sight, but never without a positive impact on supporting colleagues, policing and on our communities.

Across my career, I have been fortunate to work with outstanding staff in a wide range of roles. Early on, within Neighbourhood Policing, I served as a Neighbourhood Team Leader and had one of the first PCSOs in my area. Their contribution brought a step‑change in community relations and engagement, setting the tone for the value PCSOs continue to bring today.

As a Superintendent, I have worked closely with intelligence specialists to manage firearms operations or community tension.  I relied on their commitment, accuracy and enthusiasm to provide accurate and timely information to support me in my responsibilities as commander and tactical firearms commander. Their professionalism directly contributed to the safe and effective handling of complex, high‑pressure situations.

In the area of training and First Aid I worked with police staff members who showed exceptional dedication, specialist knowledge and energy, and had a significant impact on delivering major enhancements in equipment and training. The improvements we achieved were only possible because of the passion and expertise of the police staff involved.
And today, within the PSA, I continue to work with a fantastic team: Rachel, Sabina and Sarah, whose professionalism, commitment and support are invaluable to everything we deliver. They exemplify the best of police staff: skilled, dependable and wholly dedicated to supporting policing and the wider service.

The contribution police staff make thoroughly deserves recognition, not only this week, but every week.
