Staff associations representing senior police officers across the United Kingdom announce formal partnership

Staff associations representing police superintendents working in England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, have formally announced their affiliation.

The Police Superintendents' Association (PSA), the Superintendents' Association of Northern Ireland (SANI) and the Association of Scottish Police Superintendents (ASPS) have formally committed to working in partnership for the shared good of their members.

Whilst working as independent bodies with distinct memberships and governance, the associations have committed to working together towards shared goals for the common good of policing, and to represent the best interests of members in relation to pay, conditions and the wellbeing of superintendents across the United Kingdom.

Historically, the associations have come together to work on key projects and initiatives wherever it is possible to work in collaboration. Each year, the PSA and SANI run a joint consultation exercise with members to inform a joint submission to the PRRB, and a number of events are held throughout the year, welcoming representatives from each organisation to share current issues and challenges and to support aligned work.

Now, these partnership efforts are being formally acknowledged, in recognition of the commitment to supporting one another for the shared benefits of members.

PSA President Nick Smart explains: "We have always worked positively and proactively with our fellow staff associations for the shared benefits of superintendents. Now, we're formally acknowledging this collaborative approach through an affiliation, which will enable us to put further time and effort into identifying where we can work together as one, for enhanced outcomes for our members.

"Despite working in very different political and socio-economic contexts, so many of the challenges and issues superintendents face in each area of the UK are the same. We all want to see continued improvements in the working conditions and wellbeing of our members, resulting in improved outcomes for them as individuals, but also for the communities they serve. We look forward to identifying the ways we can better achieve this in partnership."
